Thermal Survey

To understand the current state of home insulation we have teamed up with iRed®  who provide personalised external thermographic inspections of properties. The output from this is a report that will help you better understand your property’s insulation and areas of heat loss.

The best ways to stay warm (and save money) this winter

Our homes may be old, but they do not have to remain cold if we take matters into our own hands. Rupert Gregory, 37, bought his Victorian end-of-terrace house in Twyford, Hampshire, seven years ago. “When I bought the house, the energy performance certificate [EPC] graded the energy efficiency at an F, which is very low,” said the IT consultant, who lives in the home with his wife, Gemma, 37, and daughters Alice, 3, and Imogen, 6. “It’s now a B.”

So how did he transform his home? By hiring a thermal imaging camera. “We had already invested in the roof and cavity-wall insulation and had the windows replaced. We’d done all the big-ticket items. The thermal camera helped to pick out all those little bits that we missed.” With the camera, Gregory detected draughts coming in from under the skirting boards and from the front door, and plugged the gaps himself. “I was paying about £125 a month for gas and electricity. After the works this went down to £100,” he said.

iRed® sample report  (www.ired.co.uk)

iRed® use a combination of ground and drone cameras to capture thermal images of your home. iRed® specialists will produce composite images of elevations so poorly performing areas can be compared. A sample report is show here:

The report will enable you to identify areas for potential improvement, for example:

  1. Draught proofing
  2. Increased loft or other insulation
  3. Glazing or door improvements
  4. For more information: iRed®Thermal Survey

We will run a workshop after the surveys are complete where you will be able to discuss your report with iRed® and Alton Energy specialists to assess and prioritise potential actions.
